Actor Sudhanshu Pandey: Always wanted to work on my terms | Exclusive

Actor Sudhanshu Pandey is the Hindi voice behind Hulk for the Audible series Marvel Westlanders. The actor, who recently left popular daily soap Anupamaa, spoke to IndiaToday.in in an exclusive interview about his new stint. He also answered why he always wanted to do something like that. Sudhanshu mentioned the efforts that go into balancing different hats, be it of a singer, an actor or a voice actor. Excerpts:
The thing is, for an actor, it is always challenging to dub something because everything you have to do is through your voice. When Audible offered me this opportunity, I was very excited because I’ve never done anything like this in my entire career. I’ve done voice-overs but have never really performed through my voice. The interesting part is: when you’re on the mic, nobody’s watching you, so you can go all out. For me, I grew up watching a superhero called Fawlaadi Singh who could take a missile in his chest. So, as a kid and otherwise, I always wanted to play a superhero. Hulk, for me, is the most ideal superhero. So, it was amazing to have this opportunity.
Fortunately for me, it was written extremely well and the dialogues did not sound like they had simply been translated. They have created a new format where they are not in that space where you can mock them. The comparisons are natural, but I don’t think it is required here because this is in Hindi and all that you’ve heard before has always been dubbed from English where voices and the texture are digitally enhanced. This is more realistic. And we are predominantly targeting the Hindi audience.
I think I am at that age where I want to experiment with the kind of roles that I want to do. There is so much competition today. There are so many brilliant actors around. I already have the advantage of being known and having an image. I have a bigger challenge because I need to now start doing characters that are going to be drastically different from each other and I want to make sure that people can see the range of work that I am doing.
Times are now changing, but having said that, there is still a tendency to typecast actors. That is the reason why I have moved slower than most people, because I didn’t want to ever get typecast. I want to do things on my terms and conditions.
